If you don't necessarily know the editing process, or perhaps you have some idea but not the complete picture, this should help.
Questions I encounter:
How did I become an editor? What types of editing do I do? What does each type of edit entail?
As you research, I welcome you to view this video to learn more about me and the process. And for more, check out the Portfolio page for more on my experience.
Why choose me? My portfolio, experience, and endorsements are available for more information. But I guarantee an enthusiastic, growth-minded experience in which I will keep at it until you are satisfied.
A copy edit is primarily about correcting errors. This is one of the last stages of a manuscript edit, coming after a line edit and before a proofread. I will look for mistakes in spelling, grammar, punctuation (comma splice, proper use of the Oxford comma, etc.), redundancy of words, and sentence length. While I may flag up issues with clarity, flow, word choice, etc. if I catch them, this is not the primary concern of a copy edit.
A line edit is primarily about improving language while being true to the author’s voice. It is often the best option for first-time authors and manuscripts that have not been checked or critiqued by anyone but the writer. I may reorganize sentences and paragraphs for clarity, point out trouble spots, make suggestions when a word is vague or redundant, indicate where something might confuse a reader, and generally improve the flow and tone.
Ghostwriters are the unsung heroes behind thousands of bestselling books—from celebrity autobiographies to business books and even works of fiction. If you have an important story to tell, or blog posts to write, but don’t possess the writing skills (or the time) to put it down on paper, you can hire a ghostwriter to write that book for you. The official credit goes 100% to you, not the editor.
A developmental edit is a thorough and in-depth edit of your entire manuscript. It is an examination of all the elements of your writing, from single words and the phrasing of individual sentences, to overall structure and style. It can address plot holes or gaps, problematic characterization, and all other existing material.
This is the process of reviewing the final draft of a piece of writing to ensure consistency, accuracy, identify, and rectify grammar, vocabulary errors, spelling, punctuation, and formatting.
I also specialize in content creation, memes, and social media presences. This is available as part of or separate from project management. My work includes websites, social media, business materials, and other awesome experiences.
Every word you write (websites, blogs, advertising, documents, etc.) is part of your professional image.
If potential customers get a poor first impression from a simple spelling error, your image will suffer.
Don’t let a typo sabotage your credibility!
Whether you choose to self-publish your book or go the traditional route, it’s important to examine every sentence with painstaking care and polish your writing to make it as professional as possible.
That’s why I’m here. I make your life easier by taking the burden of editing off your shoulders.
You’re passionate about design, but sometimes the texts you have to work with is—shall we say—in need of help.
You may choose to take care of the fun, artsy stuff and let me be the persnickety grammarian. If not, I also specialize in content creation, memes, and social media presences. My work as a project manager includes books, websites, social media, business materials, and other awesome experiences.
I make the text, images, and overall project of your clients’ work as beautiful as your design.
You can find success stories from authors and clients on the Portfolio & Endorsements page. I have edited and ghostwritten countless books, articles, papers, blogs, business flyers, and more. I have worked with dozens of clients as a project manager in both books and other non-writing projects. My clients' websites are available to reach out for more information. Most of all, I take care with each client to listen to your voice. I believe in maintaining your voice whether I am writing, editing, or managing a project for you. I keep in contact, give updates, and offer encouragement. Ask any of my clients.
